This one one of the best Farmer's Market Days I've been to. It was a joy to see so many people out of all ages. A fun time was had. Thanks to everyone who is there with the produce and all who attended.
Congratulations on a job well done. HP

This is great hopefully some day the community garden will expand out to the adjacent school yard as this will then provide enough food for many hungry/needy people who cannot afford the ever increasing food prices at the grocery stores.

whenever I see open fields I have visions of plenty-full vegetable gardens throughout the city.

On the dark side, even though the message is clear about the use of weed and pest killer on lawns, I have witnessed more posted signs than ever before and in opinion is disgraceful especially since the information and scientific studies convey a clear message. When these poisons are applied to the environment the likelihood of bioaccumulation and ground water contamination is present the uses then pose a threat to these ecosystems, the ecosystems all living matter relies upon for its survival.

On the bright side next year as a result of the no pesticide ban hopefully these negligent activities will be a thing of the past. One thing is for sure I will be policing the Sault area to make sure - I will keep track of how the violators are dealt with in accordance to the laws of the Province.

Hi Carol,

I am trying to organize a group canning day or days. I was going to start with the strawberries as they'll be ready soon.

My problem is that I need a kitchen. I was just about to begin the phone calls to find one.

I don't like to do all the food prep by myself and it's cheaper to pitch in with other people.

I don't think there is much going on as far as trade, yet.
Anyway I would be willing to participate in anyway. I think sharing and trading is fantastic.

Hola: I've recently signed on with a local CSA and have recently bought from Kenokean Farms. Now I'm looking to buy local pork, and free-range chickens and eggs. Can anyone help me with this or give me some contacts to try?? Thanks so much.

Thank you for the reminder. I will be making some calls tomorrow to find my own farm to join.

I was also thinking it may be cool if we (the members of a CSA) did some preserving. When I can or freeze something I do it in BULK and it is time consuming. There is usually more than I can use and I don't have time to do another vegetable or fruit. It would be convenient if I could trade some of my strawberry preserves for someone else's home made pickles or canned peaches. Do you see where I am going here? Is it possible?

Throughout the members of the group there must be the resources to find something to do with everything we get from the farms so that nothing is wasted and we have locally grown food to last through the winter.

Then again, there is probably already something like that going on if I know Lee-Ann at all! LOL Just point me in that direction if you would.

Hello there,

My name is Dax and I'm planning a film series this summer called Sault Ste. Marie Cinema Politica. We are showing various social, cultural, political, and environmental films to "enlighten, inspire, and educate" local citizens. There's a film we are showing entitled 'The Future of Food' that I think you might be interested in. We are currently looking for guest facilitators so we can link the movies to local people, organizations, and initiatives so our audience can ask questions and hopefully get involved.

Check out the website and let me know what you think.

Thanks and take care,
Dax
