It is initiatives like these that help to keep our local community strong. I have nothing but good things to say about the Soup Kitchen and the staff there. I have never met people who are more passionate about equality, fairness and social justice. It warms my heart when I see what Calna and her friends at the kitchen are doing. Not to mention, all the wonderful volunteers who help keep the kitchen operating. I would hope that nobody feels like they have nowhere to go to eat, because the Soup Kitchen will always open its doors to you without forcing you to deal with stigma.

If you want great farm eggs, see Silas Bowman (located just 200 feet east of Bar Rd., before Findlay Rd, on the North side). Their family usually has a roadside market but if they are not set up, don't be afraid to drive up to the home and request eggs. He is very pleasant to deal with. They are also happy to receive empty egg cartons for reuse.

Hi Jeff,

We are getting ready to launch our coffee roasting business which focuses on fair trade and organic coffee beans. Can you please send me more info about the Algoma Farmers' Market as we are interested in becoming a vendor.

Thanks,
Shane Hoffmann

I'll be in the Sault Ste Marie area, staying at Algoma this summer. Is it possible to volunteer at any of the farms of the CSA. I have a background in greenhouses and Environmental Sciences. Looking to do a little work, or work in exchange of vegetables!

My interests in the realm of food security are focussed primarily on the local food movement, community supported agriculture, subsistence economies, building sustainable local food systems, environmental implications of our food production systems and our food choices, and community and human health and wellness. I know this is a broad range of topics, but they are all very much interrelated.

The local food movement is absolutely exploding, as we see in the media. I write about issues that interest me directly, have educational components, and important implications for sustainable community development.

Don't know if this answers your question...hope so.
Best,
Lee-Ann
