The Allard Street Community Gardens will be having an open house tomorrow, July 10th, between 2-4pm. They will be celebrating the newly expanded gardens, made possible by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Come tour the gardens and enjoy some children’s activities, cake and juice.
Hope to see you there!
This is great hopefully some day the community garden will expand out to the adjacent school yard as this will then provide enough food for many hungry/needy people who cannot afford the ever increasing food prices at the grocery stores.
whenever I see open fields I have visions of plenty-full vegetable gardens throughout the city.
On the dark side, even though the message is clear about the use of weed and pest killer on lawns, I have witnessed more posted signs than ever before and in opinion is disgraceful especially since the information and scientific studies convey a clear message. When these poisons are applied to the environment the likelihood of bioaccumulation and ground water contamination is present the uses then pose a threat to these ecosystems, the ecosystems all living matter relies upon for its survival.
On the bright side next year as a result of the no pesticide ban hopefully these negligent activities will be a thing of the past. One thing is for sure I will be policing the Sault area to make sure – I will keep track of how the violators are dealt with in accordance to the laws of the Province.
